What is life like at UniResort?

UniResort is a unique setting where over 300 people from all over the world come together to live, study and experience the best of Brisbane. Often, our residents do not know many people here and are entering a new country, new city, new university or school, and new accommodation all at the same time without knowing anyone – it’s a lot to take in. As such we have taken a pro-active approach to doing whatever we can to make your assimilation into Brisbane life as easy as possible. Make sure you join the UniResort Social Club to take advantage of our UR Events team tasked with running regular events to ensure an opportunity to mingle and meet your fellow tenants, as well as experience community life in Mt Gravatt. There will be plenty of events from BBQ’s to Pool Parties as well as community and charity initiatives to give a bit back. In addition to this UniResort is in the process of putting together a UniResort membership card that gives you benefits and discounts at surrounding restaurants and shops. We will also be facilitating other events from time to time as demand presents such as group fitness classes, dancing classes, walking or riding groups, etc. Life is here to live!

We aim to make UniResort a thriving community that facilitates students getting the most out of life! If the friendly UniResort staff can assist in any other capacity please just ask.

How do I know my roommates will keep things clean?

With shared accommodation it is very important to respect each other and live in a clean and tidy apartment. No-one wants to come to the kitchen to cook their meal and find it a complete mess. Hence it is very important to show respect to each other by looking after the common areas and cleaning up after yourselves.

UniResort is very determined to ensure a positive culture in this regard where everyone has a great living experience, and will be conducting regular inspections to ensure standards are being met. If you are finding you are experiencing frustrations with your roommates’ cleanliness standards and they don’t seem willing to discuss with you please have a chat with our friendly staff who can assist you in rectifying any problems.

Is UniResort near transport?

Yes, you will be surprised how well UniResort is positioned and how easy it is to get around with public transport. With a bus stop at the front of the resort, and Garden City's major bus terminal (Upper Mt Gravatt Busway) a short walk away you will be surprised how easy it is to get around. Buses leave from Upper Mt Gravatt Busway every few minutes [every minute at peak times to Brisbane City], with the express reaching Brisbane’s CBD (QUT) in 16 minutes! And UQ also in 16 minutes!

The Busway is like a train line - perhaps even better, as they have more regular services - with roads dedicated to buses only (so no traffic delays!) direct to Brisbane. The Griffith University Busway is on the same line and is 3 minutes from Upper Mt Gravatt Busway, so UniResort is really well located for Griffith University students! But it is also surprisingly accessible to UQ, QUT and most other major educational institutions around Brisbane. In fact there are not many educational institutions in Brisbane that don’t have people staying at UniResort.

With this kind of transport you can go green as you really don’t need a car!

What if I want to break my lease?

We understand that situations sometimes occur that you aren’t able to stay till the end of your lease and we do offer flexibility here. Let us know as soon as you can if you can not stay the length of your lease so that we can start looking for someone to take over your apartment. The break of lease fee is equal to two weeks rent. In addition, you are required to keep paying the lease until there is someone else to move in to your apartment.

Of course, if you can find someone to take over your lease straight away, you only need to pay the one weeks break lease fee.

Also, you should be aware if you are entering a long term lease that has discounts applied these discounts will be reversed if you break early.

What is rental bond for?

A rental bond is money that the tenant pays at the beginning of a tenancy which the lessor can claim if the tenant owes money for rent, damages, or other costs at the end of the tenancy. It is not rent in advance. Bond is lodged with the state government authority, and assuming you look after everything it will be refunded to you when you leave. This is a standard requirement for rental accommodation in Brisbane.
